Case Study: Launching a U.S. Golf Brand in the Canadian Market

An established American golf brand was expanding into Canada and needed a localized Shopify storefront. The client provided a product export file from their U.S. team, but several key issues arose during the initial stages of the import and site build:

Background & Challenge

Several key issues arose during the initial stages of the import and site build:

Product Import Issues
: The Matrixify import process failed due to improperly formatted spreadsheets, resulting in hundreds of products with missing titles, variants, images, and descriptions.
Inconsistent Formatting: Product titles were in all caps (e.g., “ARNOLD PALMER GLOVE”) and lacked stylistic consistency. Tags in the spreadsheet duplicated the Product Type unnecessarily.
Complex Color Requirements: Many products included multiple colorways, some with Pantone references and specific PNG files, which required a flexible way to display colors on the storefront.
Design Parity with U.S. Site: The Canadian site needed to visually match the U.S. brand’s website, requiring a custom Shopify theme that respected their brand guidelines while remaining compliant with Canadian tax and shipping rules.
Manual Labor Requirements: Each colorway needed to be treated as its own standalone product, with collections (siblings) created manually, a time-intensive process with many unknowns.

  • Their Goal

The main goal was for us to build the Canadian brand website which align with the American one.

  • Our Solution

We created a properly formatted import template and worked closely with the client to ensure their product data matched the required structure. A custom metafield system was implemented to dynamically display either color names or PNG files for Pantone-specific items. Each colorway was imported as its own product, and we advised the client on setting up sibling collections to organize these variants. A custom Shopify theme was built to visually align with the U.S. site, while accommodating Canadian pricing, tax, and shipping needs. We also trained the client on using Shopify’s bulk editor for categorization and future updates.

The Canadian storefront launched successfully with a clean and accurate product catalog that aligned with brand standards. Product data was fully standardized and imported without errors, and color handling was made flexible through metafields. The site matched the design and user experience of the U.S. version while supporting Canadian localization. The client now has a reliable system for managing future imports, tracking changes, and scaling their catalog efficiently. This foundation sets them up for long-term success as they grow their presence in the Canadian market.

Since the site launched in February, the brand has made over $265, 000 in sales.
